Manchester United’s Gary Neville Tried Convincing Liverpool Legend for a Move to Old Trafford

It is being suggested now that Sir Alex Ferguson told England international Gary Neville to convince his team-mate Steven Gerrard to leave Liverpool and move to Old Trafford during the mid-2000s. The right-back was the Manchester United skipper at that time under Ferguson, after Roy Keane’s departure in 2005. He was sent by his manager to have a quiet word with the Reds’ midfielder when the duo was away on international duty.

Now, in Gerrard’s new autobiography, which is currently being serialized by the Daily Mail, it is stated, “My agent, Struan Marshall, told me that, under Fergie, United had a decent pop at trying to sign me. Gary Neville would knock at my door during England camps.”

“He’d come in for a chat and let me know how much United would love me to play for them. Gary told me Fergie had sent him.”

Sir Alex must have surely known that the move would not happen easily, yet eventually the 35-year-old superstar remained loyal to the Merseyside club back then.
