Why This Manchester United’s Ex-Marquee Signing Should Say No To China

The world of football has seen a financial boon in the last decade with clubs from around the world not hesitating to splash the big bucks on players that they are desperate for. Though the Premier League was known for its lavish spending over the years, Asia’s biggest league, the Chinese Super League is now emerging as commercial giants in the sport. In the last year, they have recruited some of the best players in Europe, luring them by offering insane wages and this season has been no different. A number of star players are linked with moves to clubs in China with Chelsea Oscar, having already agreed a deal. But one player who is now extensively linked with a move to the Chinese Premier League is Argentine attacker Angel di Maria.

Di Maria's arrival could well see the departure of Lavezzi

According to reports, the PSG man is willing to accept a move to Asia after failing to have the kind of an impact expected of him this season by Unai Emery. The former Real Madrid man, who moved to Manchester United a couple of years ago, failed to help the Red Devils in his only season in England, before securing a big money move to PSG. In his first season in France, Di Maria showed his previous form, helping the side to yet another title but this season, under a new manager, the Argentine has just not been able to find his form in front of goal and PSG are now ready to off-load him for big bucks in January. But should he really move to China?

For starters, his attitude at his current club at the moment has come under criticism and though the exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Laurent Blanc has had its effect, the 28-year old has taken too long to have an impact and is currently not helping his side in most games. But at his age, Di Maria, is still one of the best players in his position and losing him will affect PSG in the long term. But the French giants have agreed a move for Draxler, leaving Di Maria with little choice. But a move to China will only make his career slip further down.

At the moment, Di Maria is playing in one of the least competitive leagues in one of the strongest sides in Europe. He has a great chance of winning trophies and playing amongst the best players in the world and this has surely helped him improve as a player. In China, Di Maria, will earn insane amounts of money, but he will not have the amount of quality that was around him till the end of the current year. The Argentine is an impact player who can make things happen in a jiffy and in China, he is sure to have a field day. The CSL does not have high-quality defenders who can handle Di Maria at his hottest and this will only let complacency set it.

His performances in China will not go completely unnoticed but if he fails to have an impact in a completely new continent, he will start losing grip on his place in the national side. The 28-year old can still turn out to be a top class player but has very few years left in him to do so. PSG might give him a chance to turn into such a player but in China, he has no real chance to help himself to greater things. Do you think Di Maria should move to China in January?
