Manchester United vs. Tottenham Preview
The first game of the Premier League is finally here and what a game it is too. Manchester United take on Tottenham in one of the Premier League’s most attacking and exciting fixtures. Manchester United ended last season in 4th position and got at least one foot into the Champions League, after missing out on the competition the season prior to that.
Tottenham flattered to deceive, despite of some amazing games and performances by Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen but ended the season in 5th place. Both clubs will be looking to make a positive start to the season with Manchester United trying to avoid the result they got from the first game of last season.
Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United lost to Swansea last season but will be looking to make amends from last season. They are a new look Manchester United with a few big name signings, who could play a huge role in their chase for the Premier League title. They could still be losing out on David de Gea with reports coming in of the Spanish goalkeeper wanting to move to Real Madrid and a deal being close to completion.
Spurs will also be looking to do better than last season and Pochettino has signed a raft of defenders to reduce the goals the team conceded last season. They will be ever reliant on the likes of their star striker Harry Kane, who was unsurprisingly linked with a move away from White Hart Lane to Old Trafford. The tale of problems with goalkeepers continues in the Tottenham camp as well as Hugo Lloris is a big doubt to okay in the first game of the season.
Tottenham haven’t had the greatest of results at the stadium historically, they have lost 18 out of the 23 trips to Old Trafford but have won twice in the last three games and could be looking to start this season off with a bang. This match would be a perfect test for Manchester United’s credentials of a title challenging side or one that is still in transition and will take a season more to gel, either way, the game is going to be a treat to watch, especially for the neutrals.
