A Dream Manchester United XI Featuring The Rumoured Arrivals

Manchester United haven’t managed to set the stage ablaze in their first season under new manager Jose Mourinho. They have won the FA Community Shield and the EFL Cup and still remain in close contention for a top four finish, while also being in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. But when one looks at the investment that was made in the summer and the strength of the squad, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that United have underachieved slightly.

With the season nearing the end, plans are underway for the next season and the rumour mills are buzzing with crazy speculations linking United with almost every star player from clubs across Europe. Here is a playing line-up that comprises of the players who have been touted to be headed to the Old Trafford by the tabloids:

Manchester United Transfer Rumours XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Jan Oblak (GK)

With David De Gea’s exit rumours never going away, it was reported earlier this week that United are targeting Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak in the summer and were in advanced negotiations. One of the best goalkeepers in Europe, the Slovenian would be an ideal replacement for De Gea if the Spaniard leaves.

Nelson Semedo (RB)

The Benfica right-back has been one of the most sought after right-backs in Europe with Bayern Munich also interested in him along with United. While Antonio Valencia has done a great job this season, a lack of an able backup has hurt the Red Devils and they see Semedo as the right man to take over from the Ecuadorian in the future.

Michael Keane (CB)

A homecoming is on cards for the 24-year old who left United back in 2015 to join Burnley. Keane has developed into a star centre-back with the Clarets and according to reports, he is high up Manchester United’s wishlist. The player also remains keen on a return.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

Probably the best centre-back in the league, Alderweireld has been key in Tottenham’s recent surge over the past two years. However, speculations were rife that United were plotting a swoop for the 28-year old with his contract talks hitting a snag with the North Londoners. Highly unlikely to happen though.

Benjamin Mendy (LB)

One of the most promising players for Monaco this season, the 22-year old Mendy has been targeted by Mourinho to resolve his left-back issues for the next season. There is stiff competition from neighbours Manchester City, but if signed, he would be a great asset.

Eric Dier (CM)

The Tottenham ace has been identified as the ideal man to replace veteran midfielder Michael Carrick, who is in the final few months of his contract with the club. The versatile 23-year old will be a coup if United pull it off.

Tiemoue Bakayoko (CM)

Another Monaco player, the midfield destroyer has been absolutely pivotal in their excellent campaign this term. Having been monitored by United for quite some time now, he could be on the move as per latest reports, with Chelsea interested as well.

Bernardo Silva (RW)

The 22-year old Monaco attacker is reportedly in advanced negotiations with United over a £42.5 million summer move and if signed, he could prove to be an excellent addition to the Red Devils attack.

James Rodriguez (CAM)

Another deal that is in advanced stages if reports are to be believed, the Colombian international has also chosen his squad number for next season with the 20-time Premier League champions. Only time will tell if the move will materialize.

Antoine Griezmann (LW)

This one has been written about in the media, for a very long time now and it seems inevitable that United will be signing the star Frenchman in the summer from Atletico Madrid. Another record breaking deal on the cards.

Alvaro Morata (ST)

The latest to have joined the list of players that Mourinho allegedly wants to sign in the summer, Morata has grown unhappy at Real Madrid and is looking for a way out. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney’s futures uncertain, the move does make sense for the club.
