Manchester United and Tottenham Stars Feature in the EPL Team of the Week

Another barnstorming week of the Premier League comes to an end while we didn’t see a ton of goals in the games played; we did see many important results. Manchester United won 2-0 against West Brom and kept their hopes of making it to the top of the league. Their cross-town rivals, Manchester City were held to a draw by Aston Villa who were led out by their new man in charge Remi Garde.

Chelsea lost yet again, despite Jose Mourinho not being at the stadium due to a ban, some things never change, eh? The North London derby ended in a stalemate and Liverpool were rocked once again by Palace at Anfield.

With so much going on, we present to you our best XI from this week’s games.

JAck Butland

Jack Butland

The Stoke City goalkeeper is going from strength to strength, not many expected him to do so well being just 22-years-old and replacing Asmir Begovic is never easy, but the Englishman has been exceptional for Stoke and was at his best denying Chelsea.

Chris Smalling

The Manchester Unite defender was the best player for the Red Devils in their 2-0 win over West Brom. First dealing with Rondon and then keeping Berahino and Lambert quite, the English defender is going from strength to strength and that can only mean good things for him.

Ciaran Clark

Aston Villa haven’t had much to cheer about, but a 0-0 draw against Manchester City might just kick-start their campaign. At the heart of the rugged performance was Ciaran Clark who did extremely well to keep Manchester City’s attack at bay for large parts of the game.

Alan Hutton

Another player who has often been criticised by many for his lack of ability and effort, Alan Hutton was exceptional against Manchester City. He might not have done much for Villa in the attack, but he was rock-solid in defence and certainly would have impressed Villa’s new manager, Garde.

Scott Dann

The Liverpool supporter was at his best once again as Palace picked up a deserved 2-1 victory over the Merseyside club. Dann did well to keep Christian Benteke at bay and popped up with the winner late in the second half.

Jesse Lingard

With many calling for him to get more playing time, Jesse Lingard showed that he can get things done for Manchester United. The English youngsters scored the first goal of the game which set United on course to a much-needed victory at home.

Xherdan Shaqiri

If there was one player who stood out on the pitch against Chelsea, it was the Swiss attacker Xherdan Shaqiri. Playing out wide, the Stoke City player made life extremely difficult for Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma. Shaqiri didn’t get on the scoresheet but he was a thorn in Chelsea’s side throughout the game.

Yohan Cabaye

The French midfielder did well in a packed midfield for Crystal Palace; he might not have been in the goals at Anfield, but his passing ensured that Palace do have a decent outlet whenever they have the ball. Cabaye under Pardew has looked to be back to his best and seems to get better as the season goes by.

Yanick Bolasie

The Palace winger was yet another player on form for the London club, he was a problem for the Liverpool defence from the word go and got on the scoresheet early in the first half. Another impressive performance by the Congolese attacker.

Jamie Vardy

You just cannot stop this man, can you? The Leicester City forward was once again amongst the goals as he helped his team to another victory. Vardy has now scored in nine consecutive matches in the Premier League, if he scores in his next game, he will equal Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record in the Premier League, who would bet against him from doing that?

Harry Kane

The English striker was back to his best as he brilliantly gave Tottenham a deserved lead against Arsenal. Kane harried, pressed and ran all across the pitch and made life difficult for Arsenal in the first half and was rewarded with the goal.
