Why Manchester United should sign Yannick Carrasco this month

According to a report in the Sun, Premier League giants Manchester United are considering a move for ex-Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco. The Belgian is enjoying a good time at Chinese side Dalian Yifang, however, he is looking to make a move back to Europe.

Carrasco left Atleti to play for the Chinese club after falling out with manager Diego Simeone. His move to Asia cost around £26m. United, along with Arsenal, were interested in the player back then. (Sun)

The 25-year-old is now keen to get back to Europe and Old Trafford could be tempting. Here’s why Manchester United should sign him soon:

United’s need for wingers

Yannick Carrasco is predominantly a left winger, but he can operate as a number 10 and as a right-winger.

Yannick Carrasco

He possesses fantastic pace to make runs with or without the ball in the wide areas. The Belgian is pretty good in dribbling past defenders to create a space for a shot or a cross into the box.

He likes to shoot from distance if space and time are available on the ball, and his accuracy is impressive. The winger can pick out key passes, which is always good news for the attackers as they expect quality in the wide attacking areas.

Talking about some of his stats in the Chinese Super League, Carrasco has scored seven goals and supplied five assists in 25 games. He has a dribble rate of 3.6, which is astonishing, to say the least. The Belgian has produced key passes at an average of 1.3 per game, making him a dangerous asset on the ball for the defenders.

All in all, the 25-year-old is an ideal winger for the modern game and should come back to Europe to ply his trade and enhance his reputation, and there’s no better place to do it than Old Trafford, wearing the Manchester United jersey.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The Red Devils look a different team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, more like the old times when the team used to play without fear and attack the opposition. However, it is evident that they need attacking ammunition to their squad to challenge for higher accolades.

Anthony Martial can play on the left wing but there is no natural option for the right-wing department. Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are more like number 10s who take turns to play there when required. Even Martial is predominantly a striker who plays as a winger.

Carrasco is comfortable playing as a left winger and as a right winger, perfectly capable of causing trouble to the defenders. Hence, Manchester United should do everything to get him.
