Manchester United opinion: The Red Devils shouldn’t sign Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale has been linked with Manchester United once again. It was only a matter of time after Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, publicly stated in his press conference in a pre-season game against Bayern Munich that Bale is actively being considered for sale in this transfer window.

Bale has had a fantastic time at Real Madrid, having won 14 trophies during his time at the club. His 6 years at the Santiago Bernabeu have been outstanding but it could be argued that he’s not always been shown love by certain sections of the fan base.

He’s definitely not been shown love by Zidane, which is quite a puzzling affair. Bale has had a significant influence on many of Real Madrid’s most important results in recent years. His first season was the stuff of dreams after signing for the club.

Gareth Bale

He scored a fantastic solo goal in the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona and scored the goal which effectively led them to their 10th European Championship. He also scored a brace against Liverpool, including that incredible bicycle kick in the 2017/18 season.

Bale is now 30-years old and is a high earner at the club with a significantly long contract, which is why it’s completely logical for Bale to see himself spending his final years of top-flight football at Madrid but the way things have soured, a move away seems inevitable.

Manchester United have a massive summer, where they have to make up ground on the other teams contending for the top-4 spots before they can think of challenging the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to the title.

Bale has had a fantastic career, as mentioned above, but a big part of his game was his ability to beat defenders with his pace. There are also great worries regarding his injury record which is why he might no longer be able to have the impact as he has done in the past.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

United need a right-winger but should look at alternatives to Bale. They’ve signed his compatriot Daniel James, who is capable of playing in any of the forward positions like their highly-rated youngster Mason Greenwood, who has stood out in their pre-season tour.

Conclusion

They also have Diogo Dalot, who has been used at right-wing to provide some natural width in certain games. There was a time when Bale would have been a great fit but this is not the time.
