Forget it Solskjaer – Man United signing this €60m La Liga star would be nothing but a huge transfer blunder

Manchester United opinion: Solskjaer shouldn’t consider signing Junior Firpo

If there is one thing that Manchester United do not need, it’s a new left-back. Luke Shaw proved to be the revelation of the season and the Englishman finally hit his stride after years and years of issues with injuries and lack of form.

The 24-year-old finally found his footing and proved to be the best player at the club. He walked away with the club’s player of the year trophy and a few man of the match awards along the way.

But even then, there seems to be no need to target a new left-back and bring him into the fold, which is why a move for Junior Firpo makes little to no sense. English news outlet Football.London has reported that the Red Devils are keen on a move for the Real Betis star.

The report adds that Manchester United are not the only side in the race, with Barcelona also keen on a move.

Now while it’s understandable as to why the Catalan giants are interested, Manchester United, on the other hand, cannot afford to spend €60million (release clause) on a player they do not need.

Instead, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has other areas that need reinforcements. His centre-backs, for example, need a leader to stand alongside the talented Victor Lindelof, a new right-back to help retire Ashley Young and a new striker.

Romelu Lukaku has already made his intentions of playing in Italy very clear and that does give the club a massive problem. It’s one that they need to solve and quickly, otherwise, they face the problem of falling down even further.

They finished the season in 6th place but unlike Arsenal, Manchester United have the budget and the financial backing to find their way back. All they have to do is not make the Jose Mourinho mistake and things will be fine.

The Portuguese manager arrived with a lot of pomp and celebration, but he tried to follow what Guardiola did and not do his own thing. That blew up magnificently in his face and it left Manchester United reeling, humiliated and out of the Champions League.

However, maybe in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Red Devils have a man who might just make a difference.  He may not have bags of experience but he’s someone who does have the backing of a lot of powerful people.

Conclusion

Manchester United do not need someone like Junior Firpo in their side, at least not at the moment, with Luke Shaw doing relatively well.

Furthermore, the club has other concerns and need to solve that first before upgrading to a new left-back.
