Man United signing this 22-year-old Portuguese wall would go a long way in solidifying their defence

Why Manchester United should sign Ruben Dias in January

Manchester United definitely improved their defence in the summer and they’ve seen the fruits of that investment in some regards by conceding few goals. However, they have often let themselves down due to silly errors.

One player United were linked was Benfica’s Ruben Dias. A Portuguese international, Dias is the complete centre-back. He’s only 22 but plays like someone with a lot of experience already.

He’s a fantastic 1v1 defender and is extremely aggressive in his duels. He often racks up the highest number of completed passes, which suggests just how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet.

Harry Maguire is a calm and composed defender who never looks flustered and along with Dias, they could form the best centre-back partnership in the Premier League.

Both of them have strong leadership qualities and would be able to organize the build-up and be in the right positions to sniff out moments during the defensive transition.

Since Chris Smalling’s departure, United have struggled when it comes to winning headers and that has been targeted by opposition sides so far in the season. United also have Axel Tuanzebe from the academy, who is a fantastic option.

The likes of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly have had a lot of chances to impress but never made that position their own. They’re all quite reckless and when they’re not reckless, they’re usually nursing an injury.

Solsjaer will need another window to get rid of the rest of the deadwood as he’s clearly shown some ruthlessness in binning quite a few players who have been taking it easy since moving into the club after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
