Manchester United opinion: Manchester United should sign Alex Sandro
According to a report in the Metro, Manchester United were interested in signing Alex Sandro of Juventus earlier in the window.
After a fascinating couple of summers that saw the purchases of Cristiano Ronaldo, Matthijs De Ligt, Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsay, it’ll be important for Juventus to balance the books as these players did not come on the cheap.
Sandro is a Brazilian international, who has been one of the best left-backs in Europe for the last couple of years. He is extremely strong, has a fantastic delivery is athletic enough to move up and down the flank. Sandro is similar to Antonio Valencia in many ways but plays on the opposite flank.
United currently have Luke Shaw as a starting left-back, who won the club’s Player of the Year last season. This came as a surprise to many as even though Shaw was perhaps one of the more consistent players, he didn’t really do anything to blow up trees last season.
Manchester United have now managed to buy Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka which will immensely improve their defence and Shaw suddenly looks like the weaker link. However, to give Shaw the benefit of the doubt, he never recovered from his injury till last season.
Having an entire season on his hand will help him in the upcoming term but he’ll have to massively improve. Shaw doesn’t always bomb forward like most modern full-backs and is a little safe with his passing. He’ll need to improve on all these aspects since he’ll no longer be the best among a bad bunch.
Sandro is a far better player than Shaw but he’s also much older at 28. There’s a case to be made that Luke Shaw needed competition, as his performances dropped after signing a long-term contract last season.
This might be one way of forcing him to get better and regain the form we saw prior to his injury, where he’d bomb up and down the left flank with ease.

Sandro would be a fantastic signing for United and would make them one of the strongest defences in England on paper. United should get this deal over the line.
