It’s absolutely imperative for Man Utd to get this 28-year-old with one year left on his contract to sign a new deal

Manchester United should get David De Gea to sign a new deal

Manchester United haven’t had the best of times in the last couple of seasons but one player who has stood out is David De Gea. The Spaniard has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the last few years and United will be indebted to him for some unbelievable performances.

The Spaniard was signed from Athletico Madrid as a 19-year-old and after a shaky start, he is undoubtedly going to go down as a legend. Now 28, he has a year left one his contract and the Metro has reported that he’s likely to sign a contract in January.

De Gea is often the oldest player on the field now as United have fielded the youngest squad starting XI in their first two games of the season and De Gea’s the oldest among the current starting XI and is also the wearing the Captain’s armband at the moment.

De Gea is vital to United’s aspirations for the rest of the season as he’s a senior player and even now arguably the best shot-stopper in the world along with Jan Oblak of Athletico Madrid. From what could be observed in the first couple of games in the season, he’s also improved his distribution with the inclusion of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to the defence.

United’s back-4 has been their weakness for a long time now and it’s not become the source of their strength as it required an unbelievable strike from Ruben Neves to break their resolve after two very impressive displays. De Gea will finally have a backline that he doesn’t have to be frustrated by.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought some optimism back to the club after the toxicity that was surrounding the club during Jose Mourinho’s final months in his tenure and the signs are good for Manchester United, who have been impressive in their first 2 games of the season, which are 2 of the harder fixtures that they’ll have all year.

With them out of the way, they have a run of very favourable fixtures and maximum points in those fixtures will give them great momentum to achieve what they can for the remainder of the season.

De Gea will have a big part to play in that and it’ll then only be a matter of time before he signs a new deal.
