Manchester United Player Ratings vs West Brom: Average Display From The Red Devils

A third straight loss for Manchester United, a third straight game where they could not score against the opposition. The match against West Brom was quite frustrating for United as they had 80% possession and close to 800 passes made in the game but they conceded a deflected strike by Chris Brunt and even when they had the chance to equalize through the penalty spot, Robin Van Persie missed the goal. We look back at the performance and rate the Manchester United players.

Rooney

David De Gea: 6.5/10

Couldn’t do much to stop the goal that United conceded, De Gea has only kept 9 clean sheets all season which is a poor showing on the defence of United.

Antonio Valencia: 6.5/10

Bombed up and down but couldn’t really help the team get that goal while he did defend well for Manchester United.

Chris Smalling: 6/10

Wasn’t really troubled all game as West Brom spent more time defending than attacking.

Paddy McNair: 6/10

Was responsible for giving away the free kick but he did have a decent enough game for the Red Devils, the youngster will learn from his mistakes and will surely become a great defender.

Daley Blind: 6/10

Played well, his passing was spot on although he didn’t really have much of a say in the attacking half of the game.

Ander Herrera: 6.5/10

The midfielder did all he could for United as he controlled the midfield against West Brom but it wasn’t enough to avoid a loss.

Juan Mata: 6.5/10

The Spaniard did not have as much of a say in the attack and should have done more for the team.

Marouane Fellaini: 6/10

Marshalled really well by the West Brom defenders, Fellaini played right up in front of the strikers and it did not work out for them, he should have played in midfield rather in the attack.

Wayne Rooney: 6.5/10

Another player who had an average game, Rooney tried his level best for United, but this was just one of those days which things did not go right for them.

Ashley Young: 6/10

Young was decent enough in his attacking role and did try to give Manchester United the impetus in attack but was unable to do much in the game for United.

Robin Van Persie: 5/10

Didn’t look up for it and looked out of sorts, he had a chance to help United but missed the penalty.

Substitutes

Angel Di Maria: 4/10

Apart from one shot on target which produced a great save by Myhill, Di Maria had a poor showing and had way too many poor crosses.

Radamel Falcao: 5/10

Was brought on late in the game and couldn’t really help United score the equalizer.
