Manchester United Player Ratings vs Arsenal: Guess who needs a hairdryer treatment?

Arsenal climb up to second in the Premier League after a resounding 3-0 win over Manchester United. The Gunners started brightly and with real purpose and took the lead within six minutes, thanks to a brilliant Alexis Sanchez flick after superb work from Mesut Özil.

Özil doubled the scoring just 75 seconds later when he placed Theo Walcott’s inviting ball into the bottom corner. And the misery was rounded off by Alexis rifling home his second after wriggling his way past a hapless Matteo Darmian.

United dominated the ball from then on, but had little to show for their possession dominance. Here are the United player ratings from a thumping Arsenal victory at the Emirates.

De Gea – 6

Could do little to prevent any of the goals.

Darmian – 4

Looked miserably out of his depth against a sizzling Alexis Sanchez. Hooked at the break.

Smalling – 5

Guilty of ball watching for the Sanchez opener and could have been more aware of Özil’s position for the second goal. poor afternoon for the England man.

Blind – 5

A poor performance from the Dutchman. Had problems dealing with Walcott’s pace throughout.

Young – 6

Tried his best as a makeshift left back. Only United player bar Martial with some attacking purpose in the game.

Carrick – 5

Michael Carrick

The game passed him by. Struggled to deal with Arsenal’s pace and movement.

Schweinsteiger – 4.5

Looked off the pace but can’t be blamed entirely for a collective horror show. Had a golden chance to get one back but his touch let him down.

Mata – 5

Tried all he could, but failed to create clear-cut opportunities. Failed to provide protection to Darmian.

Rooney – 5

Poor run of form continues. One or two flashes of quality but that goal scoring instinct seems to have disappeared.

Depay – 4

Mere bystander. Pathetic display. Guess who could do with a hairdryer treatment?

Martial – 7

Another positive performance from the young Frenchman. Denied in the first half by an alert Petr Cech, but kept trying in the second half. Best United player on the pitch.

Anthony Martial
