After a disastrous start to the ICC finals in Miami, Louis van Gaal and his assembled team played out an incredible second half to come from behind and take home the victory. The score-line at the end of 90 minutes was 3-1.

David de Gea (6.5/10) – Made an incredible save in the first half. Other than that, his duty as a goalkeeper in the second half wasn’t essential with United completely dominating on the attacking front. A couple of goal kicks did go astray but at the end of the day, a decent performance from the Spaniard.

Johnny Evans (3/10) – Wasn’t as quick as he could be. Didn’t show the urge to defend or fend off the Liverpool front men. Not a good start to his game and was obviously substituted in the 45 minute, with United still lagging behind from a 1 goal deficit.

Chris Smalling (6/10) – A not so good performance in the first half quickly developed into a strong second half performance with his role as center back proved crucial during certain moments in the game where his presence stopped prime attacks on goal.

Phil Jones (5/10) – Giving away the penalty early on in the game surely did damage to his later display for the remaining of the match. Not much to go on about the feisty center back who usually shows a lot of eagerness to keep the entire territory under control.

Antonio Valencia (N/A) – An injury in the 8th minute put him out of contention for the rest of the match. Had he been part of the team for the entire 90 minutes of standard play, United’s tactics would have been backed up by his physicality and presence of mind.

Ander Herrara (6.5/10) – His passes did click at pivotal points during the game with the first goal being linked to his position in the attack. Second half was comparatively better than the first, as was for most of the players today.

Darren Fletcher (4/10) – His performance was under the bar for today but seeing as he has the will to play on and can be key to some attacking plays still puts him in good light for the new season ahead. But considering today’s fixture, a horrible performance indeed and was subbed off alongside Evans in the 45th minute.

Ashely Young (7/10) – Was powerful in the midfield and shaped up the pace in the second half to keep Liverpool on their toes throughout. The entire match saw him improve and is in good condition to fight it out in the Premier League.

Juan Mata (8.5/10) – A stellar performance from the ex-Chelsea player with his presence up front was crucial to most of the attack and set the tone to win the match with the first goal being scored by him. His pace on the ball was incredible and matched up to the Liverpool side.

Wayne Rooney (8/10) – As always, he’s a team player, encouraging his side to pick up the pieces and take it all the way in the second half. Rooney played well in the second half, always up front and ready to break through the defense and score.

Javier Hernandez (6/10) – He performed well is what I would say. First half was decent but for most of the fans who wanted him to shine under LVG didn’t come through on expectations. I have a good feeling that this new season might put him back on track.

Tyler Blackett (6/10) – Came on for Evans and did a decent job of bringing the entire defense under control and was there at the right moments to shrug off the Liverpool attack. A promising start to a promising youth prospect.

Luke Shaw (7.5/10) – Played well for what was a quick substitution for Valencia. Staying behind and grasping the game well to put him in the right position was seen as incredibly mature for his age and later on moved up field in the second half to contribute to the goal scoring opportunities.

Jesse Lingaard (7/10) – An exciting performance from the young player, who came on, played his part and added on to the score-line to deal the final blow to Liverpool very late in the game.

Thomas Cleverley (6/10) – I feel his performance wasn’t shown today and wasn’t too physical enough right near the midway section of the field. He’s needs to have more in game action and zeal for the ongoing scenario.

Shinji Kagawa (5.5/10) – Didn’t make the proper breakthrough after being subbed on in the 68th minute alongside Nani. Was here and there up front but failed to be the playmaker he’s supposed to be.

Luis Nani (7/10) – Came on and played well for what the 20 minutes was worth. A highly good performance from the Portuguese star.
