Manchester United Player Ratings Against CSKA Moscow: Smalling and Lingard Stole the Show

David de Gea 7

Didn’t face enough challenges. Had a dull night in front of the goal, but made a crucial save in the dying minutes of the game.

Ashley Young 5

Ashley Young playing at right-back is a clear indication that he will start in the upcoming weekend as first-choice right-back Matteo Darmian is suspended. His horrible dive in the second half was he highlight of the game. Did his defensive duties to perfection.

Chris Smalling 8

Once again, this Englishman was rock-solid for Manchester United. He didn’t allow the Moscow forwards to make an attempt in front of the goal and his block late in the game made sure that United finished the game with all three points in hand.

Daley Blind 7

Played a perfect foil to Smalling and hardly put a foot wrong. He also contributed in attack as his balls from the back created some chances for Manchester United.

Marcos Rojo 6.5

He was a big threat when he went forward as he ran past Moscow defence with ease. He was also the one who won the ball back for Rooney’s goal. A decent night overall.

Michael Carrick 6

Though he supplied Jesse Lingard with a great ball to assist Wayne Rooney for the goal, he was found losing the ball easily at times.

Bastian Schweinsteiger 6

The German moved forward and contributed in the attack too often. His passes were accurate and made sure he didn’t allow Moscow midfielders to take advantage in the midfield.

Jesse Lingard 7.5

Great performance by the youngster, who has impressed Louis Van Gaal a lot this season. He grew in confidence as the game went on as he drove forward to test the CSKA defence and assisted for Rooney’s goal.

Wayne Rooney 7

The English striker looked good against Moscow in the number 10 role behind Martial and had chances to score. He ended Manchester United’s goal drought with a headed effort.

Juan Mata 6.5

The Spaniard had a terrible time in the last few weeks and last night, he looked good till the time he was taken off for Memphis Depay. Could have got his name in the scoresheet.

Anthony Martial 5

Not a good game by the standards he set for himself after coming to Old Trafford. He was made as the striker and was caught in he off-side position too many times.
