Should Manchester United Lure This Rising Gem From Mourinho’s Homeland?

So, now that the transfer window approaches, the Glazers and their guys will spread across Europe looking for some talent to bring to their ranks, as they’re set to face one of the most difficult second halves of the season in the history of the club.

And Jose Mourinho’s keen to bring the talent he knows, and what best place to look into than his own homeland? So the Special One is digging hard into the NOS league looking for guys to shield his struggling defence.

With the fitness issues of Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian, reportedly, United are looking to lure Victor Lindelof to Old Trafford, as well as his buddy Nelson Semedo from Benfica. But, would the latter be a good fit for Manchester United?

“Nelsinho” as Semedo’s known by the fans and his teammates has been on Mourinho’s radar for a very long time now. The 23-year-old Portuguese right back has been a key piece in Benfica’s surge of success this season, being at the top of the League and even qualifying to the knock-out stage of the UEFA Champions League.

The right back has made 21 appearances for the Portuguese side so far this season, even managing to score 2 goals with 3 assists over the course of the year despite not being an offensive player on the pitch.

As you can see from this kind of numbers, one of his best skills is his passing, as he enjoys to exchange short passes with his teammates in order to build up their attacking moves and break opposing defences.

He’s also an outstanding dribbler, being able to play as a winger, as a Marcelo or Juan Cuadrado type of player thanks to his outstanding speed and a great change of pace. His defensive work-rate is also good as he can make good timely tackles to intercept opposing forwards. Only weak point in his game is his aerial game, but that’s still a work in progress.

Considering United’s lack of depth in this position with Antonio Valencia being the lone guy there (since Darmian is currently playing as a left back), signing the young Portuguese right back should definitely add the much-needed depth for Jose Mourinho’s side during this upcoming transfer window. United should act fast before any other team steals this great talent away from them.
