Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman revealed that he has not received any concrete offer from the Red Devil’s officials. Strootman, now playing for the Dutch team PSV, has been a Manchester United target for quite some time now.
This 23-year old Dutch fellow was believed to be on the run to fill-in the gap in the midfield along with Thiago Alcantra. But apparently, he is on a summer transfer target list of a host of clubs and the favourite contender among them is considered to be the Italian side AS Roma. It is reported that Roma have been trying to sway the £12m rated Dutch International and appear to be the front-runners for his signature.
In an interview, Strootman revealed that playing in the Champions League isn’t his top priority and made sure of the fact that it is his club, PSV, who will take the last call. Quoted by the Metro, he said:
“There are several clubs interested, but only when they reach an agreement with PSV do I come into the picture, This not to say that any are in the world’s top six. There is also interest from Russia, but that is not an option for me. I just do not take hasty decisions about my future.”
“Whether the club I leave for must play in the Champions League? That wasn’t the case when I moved to PSV. There are several clubs interested, but only when they reach an agreement with PSV do I come into the picture,” Strootman concluded.”
Strootman could have been the ideal man for United, a tough tackling midfielder with a creative vision and at just 23, he is also the current vice-captain of the Netherlands national team.
On the other hand, while these transfer rumors are making headlines, David Moyes is silently preparing his boys for the pre-season tour. The latest inclusion to his campaign is the 20-year old Wilfried Zaha, who has returned from Crystal Palace.
“He will travel with us on the tour,” Moyes told talkSPORT ahead of Wednesday’s flight to Bangkok, where the tour of the far east and Australia begins. He also mentioned the rich heritage of the club bringing up the young talent.
“This club has a great record of putting young players in the team. Hopefully Wilfried can be one of them.”
Zaha has been one of the most consistent performers of the Championships in the past season for Crystal Palace and United would really hope that he can boost their midfield. The past season, United’s midfield has been a bit let down for the team and Moyes would thus like to hope that Zaha excels for them.
