Manchester United opinion: Should the Red Devils sign Declan Rice?

According to reports from English news outlet the Metro, Manchester United are back in the race for West Ham star Declan Rice. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the young midfielder in the past and have finally re-entered the race for his signature.

The report further adds that while West Ham are not under pressure to sell the 20-year-old, and a bid of around £80million would convince them. It’s a rather steep fee for someone who has just come of his first full season but given the potential that young Declan Rice has shown, that should come as no surprise.

But if Crystal Palace expects around £60 million for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, then £80 million for Rice is absolutely reasonable. It’s a move that Manchester United need to make.

Their ageing squad needs a heavy injection of youth and energy, which is one of the many reasons why they added Daniel James in the first place.

It’s also one of the reasons why the club are after Declan Rice and the 20-year-old would be a stunning addition. Cool, calm and composed on the ball, Rice has the ability to dictate play and the 20-year-old has a bright future.

His defensive nuance is downright incredible as a former centre-back and that made his transition into a defensive midfielder that much easier. It’s that ability that Manchester United need more than anything, with Matic’s no-nonsense style allowing the rest to flourish.

Easily Jose Mourinho’s second-best signing after Paul Pogba, the 30-year-old has brilliant sitting deep in midfield. His style of play has allows the likes of Pogba, Rashford and even Jesse Lingard to roam about the pitch with no defensive concern.

That’s what Rice can add and what Manchester United desperately needs to replace after Matic’s sudden decline. The 20-year-old’s passing range, ease on the ball and various other abilities are just an added bonus.

Not to mention, with Manchester City focusing only on Rodri at the moment, it leaves the path completely clear for Manchester United to swoop in and win Declan Rice’s heart. But, the question is, what fee will they get West Ham to agree to because £80 million right now for Rice is a little bit too much.

Conclusion

A great English prospect, Declan Rice has a bright future and it’s a future that Manchester United do not have at the moment. They need to change that and by adding players like Rice, the club will be able to do just that and maybe one day, hit the heights they once did so consistently.
