Reports last night were suggestive of the fact that United had had a meeting with Pep Guardiola last night and Jose Mourinho is being linked to the club too. But they are managers who have never taken charge of clubs mid-season. They start from scratch, that is when seasons begin and do their job to perfection.

More so, Mourinho won’t become the next United manager. He could’ve become the gaffer at Old Trafford much before David Moyes took charge but Sir Bobby Charlton was and is still unsure of his suitability to the club, which is a big reason. Ed Woodward is keeping him till the end of the season, despite of van Gaal’s unwillingness to carry on.

And a top four finish can’t come when you have a new manager coming in, observing how the club works and then putting his plan to implementation.
