Man City’s quest for a third PL title would have received a boost by signing this skilled 21-year-old Ligue 1 ace

Why Manchester City should have signed Houssem Aouar

Manchester City have been as dominating as ever in their quest for a third domestic title and with Liverpool on their tail, it’ll certainly not get any easier. They currently sit 2nd on the table after dropping points to Tottenham at home, despite a very good performance.

Currently, they’re without inspirational leaders like Vincent Kompany and Fabian Delph while also losing Leroy Sane for most of the season to injury. They’ve also got David Silva on his final year at the club.

One player they were linked with over the summer was Lyon’s Houssem Aouar. Widely touted as the next great French midfielder, Aouar is only 21 and has already impressed on the big stages like last season’s Champions League.

He has so many skills to his bow, which makes him a very difficult player to categorise. He can play as a No. 6, a No. 8 or even a No. 10 because he’s not just great in the attack but also has a high defensive work rate.

He’s great at building attacks from the deep under pressure and can score goals and create chances.

He had a breakthrough season last year, scoring 7 goals and racking up 11 assists in all competitions.

Guardiola needs his players to be good technically, while also having the ability to press from the front and resist pressure from the opposition. Aouar ticks all the boxes. He would have also developed further under the guidance of Guardiola.

City play Graham Potter’s Brighton in their next game and will be hoping to continue their good run with another comfortable victory. Regardless, it goes without saying that they should have signed Aouar.
