Man City signing this dominant 24-year-old defender from Serie A would solidify their backline massively

Why Manchester City should go all out to sign Milan Skriniar

Manchester City had their first setback of the season when they lost Leroy Sane for the best part of the season but there was enough attacking depth in there to have replacements within the squad.

However, they’ve now lost Aymeric Laporte as well, who was the best centre-back at the club with Vincent Kompany no longer at the club.

They have the likes of Fernandinho, John Stones and Nicolas Ottamendi to call upon, which is the sort of privilege a team like City has but they might get found out in some of the harder games as they’re light in that department without any replacements to call upon when required.

This might force their hand in the January transfer window and so a report from the Daily Express has stated that they’re looking to sign Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar. The Slovakian is one of the most dominant centre-backs in European football at the moment.

Aymeric Laporte

He’s only 24 and has been one of Inter Milan’s stand out players in the last two seasons. He’s aerially dominant, extremely good at 1 on 1 defending and is extremely aggressive in his duels and a real throwback to the likes of Carles Puyol and Nemanja Vidic with his no-nonsense style of defending by putting his body on the line with every challenge.

He’s also very comfortable with the ball at his feet, playing line-breaking passes and loves a dribble in his own half to break a high-press from the opposition.

The Serie A side doesn’t have the best of defences as it used to in the 90s and early 2000s but the top clubs still have some of the best in the business and Skriniar is considered as someone who definitely is in the top-5 in Italy.

He can also play as a defensive midfielder and right-back. He has played as a midfielder quite often for his national team and his versatility is something that Pep Guardiola will definitely look to use if he can get his man in January.

Manchester City will go into another season expected to win the Premier League and Champions League and no matter how good their football might be, they still need some individuals with the talent to get them over the line and Skriniar will go a long way to solving that.
