Nani says David Moyes convinced him to sign a new deal at Manchester United
Manchester United midfielder Nani made a stunning move this week by signing a new five year contract with United. Nani was one player who all believed would leave United and pursue his career elsewhere. It was even discussed that he would wait until next year and then leave the English side as a free agent. But the Portuguese player has now revealed that it was new manager David Moyes who convinced him to stay at the club, amid all kinds of rumours of his getting out.
“I am very content with my new deal at Manchester United. This summer was not easy but after a lot of thought and talking to David Moyes I believe it was the best solution. I feel I can offer many things to United. I had other important offers but without a sufficient challenge to make me want to leave United. The coach would not guarantee me a place in the XI more than any other player. I know I must work hard to get into this team. That is my objective for this season,” Nani said in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
During the times of Sir Alex Ferguson, Nani’s performance was far from satisfactory and that prompted Sir Alex to consider all sorts of options. But with United, now being pretty unsuccessful at the transfer window, the fans would hope that Nani hit form quickly and perform for the club on a regular basis.
While one midfielder has put his faith in Moyes, it has not been the case with another midfielder. Shinji Kagawa has expressed his disappointment at not being able to play for the Red Devils on a regular basis and has directed the media to ask this question to Moyes.
“Please ask David Moyes why I’m not in the (Manchester United) side. It is frustrating not playing but to score a goal like that gives me confidence. Hopefully I can take that back to my club with me and things will improve. It’s hard not playing regularly. Some days the frustration is worse than others; it comes in waves,” Kagawa said to AFP.
In the absence of Rooney, Kagawa would like to believe that he would get regular opportunities at United and rejuvenate the form he displayed at Borussia prior to his transfer.
Kagawa scored and provided an assist for Japan last night during their friendly match against Ghana. The midfielder has completed around 160 minutes in the two International matches this week which would definitely help him to convince his manager to get some gametime when they play against Crystal Palace this weekend.
