Man Utd reviving interest in this tricky 19-goal Serie A star would allow Solskjaer to raise the bar next season

Man Utd Opinion: Why Manchester United have to revive interest in Miralem Pjanic?

Manchester United are contemplating a replacement for Paul Pogba, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

In the meantime, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be made aware of the defensive midfield slot, which is currently occupied by Nemanja Matic.

The Serbian has been faring well in a United shirt but his age is catching up to him in parallel. The 30-year-old is clearly in the twilight of his career and the Norwegian manager must sort out his replacement in due time.

Whilst there are the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred in the squad, Solskjaer should bet on someone with enough understanding of that position.

Miralem Pjanic of Juventus meets the aforementioned requisites and he was once on the transfer radar of the Red Devils during Jose Mourinho’s reign.

What would Pjanic offer Man Utd?

The Bosnian ace continues to excel in the Serie A, having established himself as one of the best midfielders of the league. Before his move to Turin, Pjanic played around 200 games for AS Roma, the club which brought him to the bigger picture.

With the Bianconeri, the 28-year-old was named twice in the Serie A Team of the Season and also got named in the UCL Team of the Season for the 2016/17 campaign. Not to mention, he savoured his first title in his career during his debut season at Juve.

Miralem Pjanic

Despite being a defensive midfielder by trade, Pjanic never stops himself from contributing to his side’s attacking index.

In total, the former Roma man has racked up 19 goals and 38 assists for the Bianconeri thus far, whereas Matic at Old Trafford has miles to catch up. It is mainly because of the Bosnian’s style of play and versatility.

Given that he has proven himself in a top league like the Serie A, the Red Devils should pounce on Pjanic, with whom they would form a solid midfield unit.

Miralem Pjanic

As far as last season’s stats are concerned, the Bosnian was a cut above the rest in the Serie A with a pass success percentage of 91 and 2.3 key passes per game while securing an average of 1.3 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game.

Having a knack for direct free-kicks, accurate through balls and pinpoint passes, Pjanic has represented the Bosnian national team 86 times till date.

At Old Trafford, Pjanic can act as the bridge of transition between the midfield and the attack, while also being capable of cutting down the opposition’s game flow.

Final Verdict

The Red Devils’ midfield would become stronger sevenfold if they are able to prise Pjanic way from Turin. United have no better time than now to make a call on Pjanic.
