Back in April 2018, the Express claimed that former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was interested in signing Lazio striker Ciro Immobile. However, Lazio were reluctant to sell their star striker and a move didn’t materialise.
Ciro Immobile, 29, has established himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in the Serie A in the recent few seasons. The Italy international has been in superb form for Lazio over the past two seasons, racking up an impressive 59 goals and 21 assists in 92 appearances in all competitions.
He was not as efficient in the 18/19 season as he was in the 17/18 season but the 29-year-old is operating in his prime and would be a good fit in the Premier League. That being said, Manchester United should rekindle their interest in Ciro Immobile and sign him ahead of the new season.
The Red Devils could lose Romelu Lukaku this summer, with Inter Milan head coach Antonio Conte desperate to sign the striker.
Lukaku is also believed to be keen on a move to the Serie A side and made no attempt to hide that fact last month as he referred to Conte as the best manager in the world. Should the Belgian international leave Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be left short in options up front.
Solskjaer wants United to play a free-flowing, attacking and expansive brand of football.
He favours Marcus Rashford up front as it is his mobility and ingenuity in the attack that arguably makes him a better fit when compared to someone like Lukaku. But Rashford along with Anthony Martial and new recruit Daniel James cannot be relied upon for a consistent supply of goals.
However, with just two weeks left for the transfer window to close, United must splash the cash and sign Immobile to boost their attacking options.
Immobile is a highly prolific scorer with immense talent and incredible finishing skill, making him one of the finest attackers in Europe.
His neat footwork allows him to take on defenders and also work his way around tight spaces. And this makes the Italian quite a productive player when it comes to threading in clever balls in and around the final third.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund man is capable of playing anywhere across a front line, but his excellent finishing means that he thrives when used as a traditional number 9.
Known for his work-rate, pace, and ability to exploit spaces, Immobile would be a perfect fit at United and he could potentially build a solid offensive partnership with Marcus Rashford in Solskjaer’s system.
Immobile is already 29 though, and would only be a temporary fix for Manchester United.
Signing him would break the mould of Solskjaer’s recent additions but the Italy international could take United to another level next season and help them genuinely challenge for the Premier League title.
