Manchester United opinion: The Red Devils shouldn’t go for Idrissa Gueye?

Manchester United’s biggest issue this season has been their ageing squad and defensive issues all over the field. Their ageing core has hurt the club on more than one occasion this season, with a large portion of their players past their prime or itching towards that goal.

It’s something that shouldn’t happen to any club in the world, but Manchester United are in trouble. But it looks like manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well on the way towards fixing that problem.

They’ve been linked with a move for Everton star Idrissa Gueye. The 29-year-old has apparently become the club’s top signing for the summer, but that shouldn’t happen.

Sure, Manchester United do need another midfielder in their ranks with Ander Herrera leaving the club.

Things will get worse for the club unless they add someone but it cannot be the extremely talented Idrissa Gueye. The 29-year-old has been phenomenal for Everton but his age and his deteriorating legs will play a part soon.

A brilliant defensive midfielder, Gueye has been a bargain for Everton ever since the move from Aston Villa. He’s proven to be more than adept to the role and has been one of the club’s standout performers since then. But his age should be a massive factor.

The Red Devils already have Nemanja Matic at the club and the Serbian is well on his way past 30. Combine that with a catalogue of ageing players and it’s something that Manchester United need to change.

There would players better than or just as good as Idrissa Gueye available for the same price.

Those are the kind of players that the Red Devils need to make sure they target if they ever are to return to the pinnacle of their powers again. With Manchester City and Liverpool dominating the league, Manchester United need more than just ageing legs and experience to help them out.

They need the right players with the right attitude and despite all his good parts, Gueye just isn’t that.

Idrissa Gueye is very talented and deserves a move to a bigger side in the near future but Manchester United just cannot be that destination for him. There are better options out there for the Red Devils and that’s what they need to target.
