Manchester United Opinion: David Neres to Manchester United

English news outlet the Sun has reported that Manchester United have entered the race for Ajax super starlet David Neres. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the wheel, the Red Devils must aim to make a lot of changes to their team.

The Manchester United boss has already revealed as much, saying that quite a few players present may not be here in the future. That could prove to be just what the club needs, especially after the failures of the previous regimes, which has hurt Manchester United badly.

Jose Mourinho did do some repair by adding the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof. But barring that, the Portuguese manager did more harm than good to the club.

While Solskjaer may be cutting the fat from the club, the Norwegian will also have to be careful and not make the same mistakes as his predecessors.

That’s exactly why targeting players like Aaron Wan Bissaka (Mirror), Joao Felix, and Bruno Fernandes [ESPN(h/t Mirror)] will help him move forward. But as the Sun has reported, they have also entered the race for David Neres.

An insanely talented 22-year-old, the Brazilian is part of a superb Ajax team that has stunned the Champions League this season.

Although when one takes a look at the talent on board, it’s really not that big a surprise that Ajax have even made it this far. And among all the Frenkie De Jongs, Matthijs De Ligts and even Dusan Tadics is David Neres. A powerful and explosive forward, the Brazilian combines close control with creativity and vision in the final third.

That shows in his statistics this season, with Neres averaging 1.8 shots, 1.1 key passes and a passing accuracy of 84%. Not only that, the 22-year-old has contributed to 21 goals this season, scoring eleven of those goals himself.

Yet that is well off his career best, with Neres finishing last season with 14 goals and 13 assists in the Eredivisie alone. It shows just how talented and far he can go, especially at a club like Manchester United in the near future.

The Brazilian is ready for a move to a better and bigger league and the interest in him has been mainly from the Premier League. The likes of Everton (Telegraph), Arsenal (the Sun) and Liverpool (ESPN) are all keen on moves but for the Red Devils, this is one race that they have to win.

Conclusion

Manchester United have a lot of work to be done on their team if they want to even get close to where Manchester City or Liverpool are at. However, there is no one player who can take them there, but David Neres comes as close to that mold as one can. Alongside a few other additions, Manchester United may have a fighting chance.
