English news outlet Manchester Evening News has reported that Ivan Rakitic could stay at Barcelona over the summer and Manchester United really need to step up their approach. The Red Devils need reinforcements in the summer and Ivan Rakitic could help them in this transition.
The Croatian is among the best in his position but Barcelona signed Frenkie De Jong in the January transfer window, with the Ajax man arriving next summer.
This changes things for Rakitic, as it means that he’ll have to compete with the likes of Arthur Melo, Arturo Vidal, Carles Alena and Philippe Coutinho.
Given De Jong’s ability, the young midfielder is bound to do well and Rakitic might struggle for game time. However, he does have a way out with Manchester United heavily linked with a move for the Croatian over the last few months (Express).
The Sun has further reported that the Red Devils could buy him for £43million, which is an absolute steal for the Croatian. A highly talented midfielder, the Croatian star played a major role, alongside Luka Modric, in helping Croatia get to the World Cup Final.
He’s continued that form into this season. He’s played an immense role in helping Barcelona keep their La Liga title. The 30-year-old is a very hard worker and his hunger for success makes him among the best in his position.
These are attributes that cannot be coached into a player. This has seen him make 50 appearances contributing to 14 goals in all competitions, missing just three games in the league this season.
Rakitic has also played every single game in the Champions League, playing a big part in helping the club to the semi-finals. It’s what Manchester United were hoping Paul Pogba would do in the quarter-final, which he clearly failed at.
Rakitic, on the other hand, played a big part in the tie between the two sides and other than Lionel Messi, the Croatian among the better players in the tie. It showed the best of his abilities and why a move makes a lot of sense for Manchester United in the near future.
