Man United signing this Croatian World Cup star would make them one of the best attacking forces in England

Why Ante Rebic would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

Back in August 2018, the Calciomercato had claimed that Manchester United were interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ante Rebic. However, a move didn’t materialise and the Croatian stayed put at the Bundesliga club.

Ante Rebic, 25, was a wanted man by some of Europe’s biggest clubs last summer following a superb World Cup campaign with Croatia. He starred for Croatia at the World Cup in Russia, helping his nation reach the final of the tournament before losing out to France.

The speedy forward impressed last term and helped Frankfurt finish seventh in the Bundesliga table. He bagged 10 goals and six assists in 38 games across all competitions.

After Ante Rebic claimed that he would like a move to England as it suits his style of play in January, the time would be ripe for Manchester United to rekindle their interest in the Croat and sign him before Thursday’s deadline.

After finishing sixth last term, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men need to vastly improve to reinsert themselves into the top four.

The Red Devils have been busy this summer, with Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James heading to Old Trafford. They are in the hunt for a central midfielder before Thursday’s deadline following the departures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera this year.

However, Solskjaer’s club will also need to invest to replace Romelu Lukaku, who is heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan. Lukaku doesn’t fit the Norwegian tactician’s style of play and wants to leave the club, with the Belgian being Inter manager Antonio Conte’s number one target this summer. With that in mind, Solskjaer should replace Lukaku with Rebic.

Rebic would be perfect for the Red Devils as he possesses the ability to play out wide or upfront. He would suit the versatility that Solskjaer will no doubt crave from any forward in his team, whilst also providing adequate cover for the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

The Croat is a technically-gifted attacker, noted for his pace, power, industry and aggression. He’s also not a player to shirk defensive duties.

The 25-year-old is a classic winger who hugs the line and crosses the ball. In Rebic, United would get a traditional winger who would put crosses in the box for the strikers to feast upon.

He’ll add a lot of flair to this United side and has the physical attributes that would help quickly adapt to the demands of the Premier League.

Moreover, the Croatian international would provide something different to Solskjaer’s attack, whilst posing a major threat on the counter-attack.

Verdict

Rebic is an entirely different player to Lukaku but one that could slot seamlessly into Solskjaer’s flexible system and help United get back into the Champions League next year.
