Man United signing this 6ft 4in powerhouse would make their midfield one of the best in the league – opinion

Manchester United opinion: Red Devils should sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Italian news outlet Sempremilan has reported that Manchester United have reignited their interest in Lazio superstar Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The 24-year-old has struggled to rediscover the form that caught everyone’s eyes last season.

He finished last season with stunning numbers, contributing to 23 goals from 48 appearances in all competitions. It saw Real Madrid, Manchester United (ESPN) and even Barcelona (ESPN) chase after him, over the summer, but nothing ever materialized.

He instead stayed at Lazio, signing a new deal with the club (Daily Mail). However, Milinkovic-Savic has struggled to make a similar impact this season, contributing to just 8 goals in all competitions.

Paul Pogba has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, amidst reports that he’s unhappy with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (AS). This will leave the Red Devils with a gaping hole in their midfield, but it’s one that Milinkovic-Savic can fill effectively.

A lot like Pogba in many ways, the Serbian is an imposing figure in midfield, standing tall at 6ft 4in. Gifted with great technique, the Serbian can play as a number 8 or as a number 10.

His rare combination of athleticism and physicality makes him an unstoppable force when he’s in full flow. He averages 1.5 key passes and 1.3 tackles per game. He also has a great shot from range, much like Pogba.

Last season, when he was at his very best, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic averaged 1.7 key passes, 2.3 shots and 1.5 tackles.

That could improve under the right manager and the right team, with the Premier League happy to welcome his arrival. Unlike most players, who move from the Serie-A to England, Milinkovic-Savic should have no trouble with the physicality and pace of the English game.

Conclusion

Manchester United need to think about their future, especially if Paul Pogba is going to keep making noises. Pogba isn’t irreplaceable and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is probably the best option if a replacement were necessary.
