Manchester United Opinion: Why the Reds should sign Hakan Calhanoglu?
Hakan Calhanoglu, 25, has failed to live up to the expectations in the Serie A since joining AC Milan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017. He has managed 9 goals and 12 assists in two seasons combined at the San Siro.
And now Calciomercato claims that the Turkey international isn’t considered to be a key part of the new AC Milan manager’s plans for next season.
Back in January 2017, Manchester United were interested in signing Calhanoglu, who was then playing for Bayer Leverkusen. However, a move didn’t materialise and he went on to join AC Milan the following summer. As Milan have transfer-listed the 25-year-old, Manchester United must reignite their interest and sign Calhanoglu ahead of the new campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is rebuilding the United squad capable of challenging across all competitions next season. He has only made two signings so far this summer but with less than three weeks left for the transfer window to end, the Reds should prioritise signing an attacker to share the creative burden of Paul Pogba.
Calhanoglu would be a good fit at Old Trafford. He is a versatile midfielder who can play anywhere behind the striker. The Turkey international plays his best football in the number 10 position due to his knack for making well-timed runs from the midfield. He is an accurate distributor of the ball and can create decent openings for his teammates.
The 25-year-old can be a potent threat because of his guile and movement. The ex-Leverkusen man also has a remarkable right foot and is a dead-ball specialist capable of scoring goals from impossible positions in the opposition half.
Furthermore, Calhanoglu is always willing to create chances for his teammates in the final third, which means that he is a team player.

Calhanoglu will be entering the prime years of his career soon. A move to Milan hasn’t worked out for him in reality but he could have a chance to put his career back on track if he moves to Old Trafford this summer.
A player of Calhanoglu’s quality and experience will undoubtedly improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options at Old Trafford. At €20million, he would be a massive coup for United if they can find a way to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams ahead of the new campaign.
