It’s official that Manchester United will be playing Europa League football next season and that makes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job even tougher. The Norwegian walked into the club that was struggling and for two months turned them into a world-class side.
But the rot left over from Jose Mourinho’s era was far too much to overcome and that hurt the Red Devils in the end. If the former Manchester United super-sub ever wants to do well with the club and truly make a name for himself, he’ll have to make a lot of major changes.
Paul Pogba’s future is up in the air, Manchester United have a lot of deadwood that needs to go and they need a new striker. While Romelu Lukaku has done well since his multi-million move to the club, he is not Solskjaer’s preferred option.
Instead, the Norwegian has mostly used Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, utilizing their pace on the counter. The Express has reported that Manchester United have approached Olympique Lyon over a move for the former Celtic striker.
The 22-year-old only joined the Ligue 1 giants last summer but the report adds that the Red Devils have offered around £43million for the striker. That should come as no surprise, especially after the season Dembele has had so far.
He’s netted 21 goals in all competitions, including 13 in the Ligue 1, 3 in the Champions League and added 6 assists to that tally. It’s an instant impact after his move from Celtic, with the Frenchman finishing his career in Scotland with 94 appearances and a modest 51 goals.
It shows his consistency in front of goal and why the move for Manchester United would be great. With Romelu Lukaku heavily linked with a move to Italy in the last few weeks (Metro), the Red Devils need a new front-man and Marcus Rashford cannot be their only option.
Instead, someone like Moussa Dembele who has lots of experience under his belt, despite being just 22 years old, would be a great shout-out. Combine that with his pace, aerial ability and a sturdy frame, it makes him the perfect man for Solskjaer’s style of play.
Whether he will be able to take the pressure of playing at a club like Manchester United is a whole other question, but the striker’s recent past suggests that he might adjust nicely.

Moussa Dembele has a bright future ahead of him and at the age of 22, he’ll only improve even further. Not only that, his time in the Scottish Premiership showed that he could cut it in a more physically dominant league, which will help ease his transition into the Premier League.
