Man United signing this 20-year-old English talent would enhance the heart of their midfield massively

Why Manchester United should sign Declan Rice?

Manchester United’s struggles continue as the first international break takes place.

The Red Devils were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton, despite having close to 30 minutes of time left playing against 10-men.

Daniel James looks like a fantastic signing for the Red Devils but there is something missing from the team.

They were unable to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer and have now allowed Alexis Sanchez to join Inter Milan too.

The Red Devils didn’t make any major signings for their midfield too, and that is one region where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to work on.

Paul Pogba cannot do everything on his own while the likes of Andreas Pereira and Juan Mata still can’t seem to click too.

On the defensive side, Nemanja Matic’s legs have gone while Scott McTominay is trying his best but still needs to improve.

Declan Rice

Declan Rice has been one midfielder liked with Manchester United for a while (h/t Manchester Evening News) and the Red Devils need to target the Hammers star.

One of England’s rising stars

United need someone who can provide cover for the defence and allows Pogba to do his thing in the midfield.

The World Cup winner shouldn’t be expected to do a lot of tracking back and has to be given the freedom to play his game.

That hasn’t been possible at United for a while but the Red Devils could do with the services of Rice.

Declan Rice

The West Ham youngster is a no-nonsense defensive midfielder who is known for his tackling and ball-winning abilities.

He isn’t adept at making brilliant passes to unlock the opposition but that is what Pogba is in the team for.

The 20-year-old Rice is part of the national team now and has been called up for the Euro 2020 qualifiers during the international break.

The Englishman has improved in each season under Manuel Pellegrini and United could do with more English talent in the team.

Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have done well since their moves in the summer, and there is no doubt, Rice is destined for greater things.

Prying him away from West Ham is a difficult task given that the Hammers have their own targets and have built a good team under Pellegrini.

However, United need stability and protection in the midfield, something Rice provides.
