Man United shouldn’t hesitate one little bit to sign this 22-year-old rising Brazilian talent and here’s why

Manchester United opinion: Red Devils linked with Pedro – Good move?

According to a report in Metro, Premier League giants Manchester United have begun talks to sign Fluminense striker Pedro during this summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old was very close to signing for Real Madrid last year, but that move halted because he suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury which kept him sidelined for seven months. (h/t Metro)

Now, United, who were also in the race last year, are back in for the player. One of their representatives approached Fluminense to get an update on Pedro’s situation, following his recovery from a long-term injury. (h/t Metro)

He is going to represent the Brazil U-22s in the Toulon Tournament this summer, which confirms his status as a player back to full fitness.

When Madrid were close to signing the striker, they were ready to pay a fee around £22m (h/t Metro).

Hence, United may get him by placing a bid of a figure something around that. However, the Brazilian side are adamant that they won’t sell the player until after their presidential election on June 8. (h/t Metro)

Here’s why the Red Devils must wait till then and sign the Brazilian:

United need better options up front

Manchester United signed Romelu Lukaku in the summer of 2017 to probably end their search for a goal scoring frontman. However, in the two seasons at Old Trafford, the Belgian hasn’t done enough to suggest that he would be their first-choice striker next season onwards.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has Marcus Rashford as the other option for that position. But the youngster hasn’t been consistent enough to warrant a regular place in the team.

Hence, it makes sense for United to sign a new striker in this transfer window. For that reason, they would be right in getting Pedro from Fluminense.

Injuries aside, the 22-year-old is a pretty handy centre-forward, who is physically strong on the ball, makes good runs in the box and is ruthless in finishing his chances.

He also fits Solskjaer’s model of talented young players and will work with them closely to build a very good team. (h/t Express)
