Manchester United opinion: Manchester United should revive their interest in Nathan Ake

With little to no time left to make deals in the English summer transfer window, we’re officially heading towards a period that could give us many surprises. One club that needs to be busy and get some bodies in now are Manchester United.

They had one of their most bizarre seasons in recent history and need reinforcements in a lot of areas but primarily in defence. \

They’ve strengthened their right-back options by signing Aaron Wan-Bisakka from Crystal Palace, who will definitely be a massive improvement on what they had and have to do the same in the centre-back areas.

One player that they’ve been linked in the past with and would be a fantastic addition is current Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake.

The former Chelsea academy graduate has made it into prominence by taking an indirect route away from a big club. He’s a Dutch international and has many of the attributes that United currently require.

Nathan Ake

He is a modern-day centre-back as he’s very good on the ball. This is highlighted by the fact that he’s versatile enough to play as holding midfielder and a left-back. He’s also a good header of the ball in both boxes and has a good turn of pace to recover himself from dangerous situations.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was part of a very dominant United side that always played on the front foot and it’s important that he has players who can play with that sort of bravery.

Ake has already shown in his play on the field and his choices off it that he’s ready to take risks. This would fit in with the ethos that has traditionally been associated with Manchester United.

Solskjaer’s signings so far – and his faith in the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford – also highlights his preference for young players.

Ake is only 24-years old and has his best years ahead of him. He would be heading into his prime and would be one of United’s more intelligent recruits if he was to make the move.

Conclusion

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a massive rebuilding job at Manchester United as the pressure of the job is unlike most others.

It’s bad enough as it is that it’s taken so long for them to address their centre-back issues but a signing like Ake would make their transfer window a massive success.
