Man United reviving interest in signing this 26-year-old defensive target from August 2018 would be a solid move

Why Manchester United should go for Layvin Kurzawa in January

Back in August 2018, a report from the Daily Star had claimed that Manchester United were interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa. But a move didn’t go through and he has since stayed put at PSG.

Layvin Kurzawa, 26, joined Paris Saint-Germain from AS Monaco back in 2015. He endured an injury-hit 2018/19 campaign, managing only 19 Ligue 1 appearances.

The French defender is not the first choice at PSG and that, combined with his contract situation, means he could be available on a cut-price deal in January.

A move to the Premier League could be just what’s needed to reignite his career, and Manchester United should reignite their interest in Kurzawa and sign him from PSG when the winter transfer window opens.

Manchester United have been dealt a blow very early in the new season as Luke Shaw is ruled out for at least five weeks, a period which could see him miss as many as eight matches after sustaining a hamstring injury in the shock loss to Crystal Palace.

After initially suffering from numerous injury problems and loss of form, Shaw struggled to cement his place in the United starting lineup.

However, the England international rallied back during the course of last season and was voted Manchester United’s Players’ Player of the Year, as well as winning the prestigious Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

Shaw was expected to take his game to the next level under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and started well this season, before injuring his hamstring.

The matter of fact is Shaw needs real competition in the squad. Diogo Dalot is expected to push Shaw but he is apparently a deputy to Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

To put things into perspective, Solskjaer needs a new left-back to compete with the England international and he could do a good job by signing Layvin Kurzawa.

Kurzawa was once regarded as one of the finest left-backs in the continent but it hasn’t gone according to the scripts at PSG. A move to Old Trafford would allow him to get back to his best and regain his place in the France squad.

The 26-year-old possesses exceptional technique, good pace, and he has a superb delivery.

His energy, intensity, power and work-rate coupled with his experience of playing at the very highest level could make him a truly elite addition to United’s ranks. All in all, Kurzawa could be a straight upgrade over Shaw.

Verdict

Hence, it’s a no-brainer for the Red Devils to revive their interest and go all out to sign Kurzawa, who could solve Solskjaer’s left-back woes.
