Man United pushing the limits to sign this 48-goal La Liga speed demon would pay rich dividends for Solskjaer

Why Manchester United should go all out to sign Inaki Williams

According to El Chiringuito TV, Manchester United are ‘giving their everything’ to sign Athletic Club Bilbao forward Inaki Williams. (h/t Football Espana)

Inaki Williams, 25, has spent the entirety of his career at San Mames, netting 48 goals in a total of 204 first-team appearances. He enjoyed a solid season in front of goal last campaign, hitting 14 goals in 41 outings for Bilbao.

The report claims Manchester United are willing to pay the €88m release clause of Williams to secure the deal.

The Red Devils star Romelu Lukaku is closing in on a move to Inter Milan before the Premier League transfer window closes today. Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to sign a player he has coveted since his spell in charge of Chelsea, and is finally set to land Lukaku after Inter tabled an improved £73.9million offer on Wednesday.

The Belgium international had a poor last season with United, however, and was usurped by Marcus Rashford in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order.

Solskjaer is keen to build his attack around quick, fluid and versatile forwards and felt Lukaku isn’t fit for his style of play. Yet, the Reds need to replace Lukaku before today’s deadline and they could do a good job by bringing in Inaki Williams.

Williams is a versatile forward, capable of playing anywhere across the front three. He is noted for his express pace, power and composed finishing in front of goal.

The Spaniard is a good dribbler and can make penetrative runs with the ball in the opposition half. He also added a lot of goals and assists to his game last season, which bodes well ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford.

Due to his rapid pace and directness, Williams could be a good outlet to interchange with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. Williams will undeniably add another dimension to the United attack and has the potential to form a fruitful partnership with the likes of Rashford and Martial at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old can score all kinds of goals, and he is not just a mere poacher. The Premier League would be a step up for him, but Williams has the qualities to thrive at this level.

Verdict

To conclude, signing Williams would be a massive statement of intent from United, and a move that will bolster their hopes of achieving Champions League qualification next year.
