Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has produced a masterclass at Manchester United, somehow managing to turn around their fortunes in a matter of months.
Not only has the former Manchester United striker managed to help Paul Pogba find the form that made him a world-class star and Marcus Rashford find his calling as a striker.
But more importantly, he managed to get the best out of Victor Lindelof, with the Swedish international transforming into a solid defender. Any mistakes or errors that were present under Jose Mourinho seem to have slowly disappeared. Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly on the other hand, haven’t had the same luck.
Both the centre-backs have struggled to find their footing under both Mourinho and Solskjaer, which has proved to be a slight problem. But it’s a problem that can be solved given United’s ability in the transfer market.
However, as Jose Mourinho found out, it has to be spent on the right players.
One man who they should be interested in Ajax superstar Matthijs de Ligt, who is being targeted by Barcelona (ESPN h/t Sport). At just 19, the Dutch defender has the world at his feet.
The likes of Juventus (Daily Mail), Barcelona (Express), Read Madrid (Sport English), Liverpool (Mirror) and even PSG (Daily Mail) are after his signature.
But what has attracted the biggest of the big is the fact that he’s 19 and easily one of the brightest prospects in world football.
De ligt has been brilliantly good for Ajax since his debut three odd years ago and is their captain now. It shows just how good he can be and more so, the 19-year-old is someone Manchester United need.
His maturity and leadership is something that the Red Devils have missed since Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic left.
While Matthijs de Ligt’s mentality is second to none, the Ajax star is a world-class defender even on his off-days.
His natural athleticism combined with stunning tactical intelligence and defensive nuance was witnessed against Real Madrid in the Champions League. That plus his aggression and tenacity make him perfect for the Premier League.

With some of the biggest sides interested in the player, that will complicate things for Manchester United. Given the current scenario at Old Trafford, adding someone like Matthijs de Ligt would solidify their team.
If they somehow manage to convince the Dutch defender to sign, he could be the missing link towards that coveted Premier League title.
