It is a no-brainer for United to offer a new contract to Marcus Rashford

According to a report by The Mirror, Premier League giants Manchester United are set to hand a new contract to forward Marcus Rashford. The 21-year-old has been a subject of interest from some of the big clubs in Europe. In fact, they were ready to pounce on any given opportunity to sign him in the summer.

Namely, Spanish giants Real Madrid and Italian champions Juventus were keeping close tabs on the player (h/t The Mirror).

However, the England international has done extremely well for the Red Devils, especially since the arrival of caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Now, the club are ready to open talks with the youngster over a double-your-money contract offer, which could see him earn £150,000-a-week. (Mirror)

Here’s why it is a no-brainer from United’s point of view to hand him an improved and extended deal:

Rashford’s current form shows he can make the difference

Marcus Rashford’s rise at Manchester United helped him play for England and his journey is extraordinary, to say the least. Not many players come through the youth ranks and straightaway stake their claim for a first-team spot at a club of United’s stature.

But the 21-year-old did exactly that by scoring a brace on his debut against Arsenal during the 2015-16 season. Since then, he has had ups and downs with the club, chiefly after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who did not provide many chances for the forward to express himself.

It is a cliche that a player of such a tender age is bound to make mistakes. This is where the manager should have backed him because his talent can destroy any defence on any day.

The Portuguese did the opposite of that in most occasions. As a result of his rotten form under the previous regime, interest grew from other clubs.

However, with the arrival of Solskjaer, Rashford seems like a player reborn. He has scored six goals and provided three assists in the past few games, epitomising his significance in the team when backed by the manager. His superb take and finish against Tottenham were sublime, to say the least.

Furthermore, his versatility to play in wide areas, including his favoured centre-forward position, offers more options to the manager. All in all, Manchester United should keep this diamond of a player for the years to come.
