Man United beating Liverpool to land this world-class World Cup winner is an absolute no-brainer – Solskjaer should do this

Why Manchester United should beat Liverpool to sign Nabil Fekir

According to a report from the Daily Express, Liverpool are back in the market for Nabil Fekir, with the odds on the Lyon midfielder making the switch to Anfield being slashed.

Nabil Fekir, 25, was very close to a move to Liverpool last summer but the Reds failed to complete the transfer back then due to medical issues.

The Frenchman has been enjoying a rich vein of form and has already put in some dazzling displays for Lyon during the course of this campaign. He has made 17 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and assisting twice.

With Liverpool having revived their interest in Nabil Fekir, Manchester United must rival the Merseyside club for the player’s signature.

Manchester United have begun life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in perfect fashion, registering comprehensive victories in all four games played thus far. United’s 2-0 victory at Newcastle saw Solskjaer match the legendary and iconic Sir Matt Busby’s record of four wins in four games as a Man United manager.

However, there is no denying that United’s defence looks fragile. It’s a worrying statistic that the Red Devils have managed just three clean sheets in the Premier League this season. And while solving the team’s defensive woes remain a priority for Solskjaer, the Norwegian must also aim to bolster his attacking options.

Juan Mata has considerably slowed down in recent years, having joined the club in January 2014 from Chelsea. United took up a 12-month extension option in his contract last season, but no fresh terms have been agreed to and the diminutive Spaniard is currently heading towards being a free agent.

Keeping Mata’s contract situation in mind, the Red Devils would do well to replace him with Nabil Fekir. The advantage with Fekir is that he can play on either flank, as a No.10 or as a secondary striker. He is speedy, agile, industrious, and is a very efficient dribbler with the ball at his feet. The Frenchman has a rocket of a left foot that is capable of delivering magic moments.

Nabil Fekir

Fekir has excellent ball control, technique and vision, plus his tendency to drift out wide and deliver pinpoint crosses into the box would be a treat for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

Furthermore, he is a set-piece specialist and would certainly bring creativity to the United side which didn’t exactly dazzle going forward under Mourinho. Hence, Solskjaer should do everything to try and sign Fekir in January.
