Man City’s left-back woes would be solved if they sign this powerful 22-year-old starring for PL rivals

Manchester city opinion: Manchester City should revive their interest in Ben Chilwell

Manchester City have proved themselves as one of the most dominant sides in Premier League history after accumulating 198 points in the last two seasons.

They also had a domestic treble to talk about last season, both of which are unprecedented achievements since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.

One of the harder things for teams that are so dominant is to figure out what areas need strengthening as there’s not a lot of room for improvement and there is no such thing is a perfect team but Pep Guardiola has fashioned a side that looks good in every department.

He has done this with Barcelona and Bayern Munich and he’s now achieving the same with City.

However, there has been one problem in the last two seasons for City but luckily for them, it’s not affected much and that is the left-back department.

Benjamin Mendy is a fantastic left-back but in his two years at the club, he hasn’t had a proper run in the side due to injuries and they can’t gamble on him to sustain his fitness any longer.

For this reason, City should revive their interest in Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.

A report from the Telegraph a couple of months ago stated that the Cityzens were interested in the England international and would have to break the world-record fee for a defender if they were to gain his services.

Chilwell is still only 22 and has a lot of years ahead of him. Last season he registered 5 assists in the Premier League, which is a fantastic return and more importantly stayed injury-free throughout the season.

Chilwell is a very good defensive full-back but he’s also fantastic in possession. He’s a fantastic dribbler and glides across the flank with a deceptive turn of pace. He’s also got a fine cross on him but for Manchester City’s sake, he would be perfect under Guardiola.

Guardiola needs his full-backs to be technically sound footballers and Chilwell fits the bill.

He’s very good at reading the game and carrying the ball and could easily play as a natural full-back who takes the width or play as an inverted full-back that keeps the game ticking in midfield to provide numerical superiority in every phase of play.

Conclusion

Chilwell is part of a very exciting young squad at the King Power stadium and will learn a lot under Brendan Rodgers but the chances to be educated under Guardiola don’t come often.

City have a very hungry Liverpool side that is more motivated than ever to take their Premier League title away from them. No team is perfect but City should aim for perfection by signing Ben Chilwell.
