Man City would unearth the next big thing in the Premier League by signing this 9-goal Norwegian wonder kid

Man City could land themselves a future star by swooping for Hakon Evjen

According to the Daily Mail, Man City and Man United are set to head-to-head in a transfer tug of war over Norwegian starlet Hakon Evjen when the transfer window reopens in January.

The same report claims that City are ahead of archrivals United in the race to sign the talented teenager, although the Premier League duo would need to fend off interest from elsewhere in Europe in their pursuit of the highly-rated emerging prospect.

The Daily Mail understands that Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar, Belgian giants Anderlecht, as well as several other clubs in Germany and Italy, are interested in securing the services of the Norwegian, who has been tipped by many to carve out a massive reputation for himself in the future.

Evjen started his career in the youth ranks of FK Mjolner and made his professional debut in the lower divisions in his homeland before earning a move to heavyweights Bodo/Glimt back in 2016.

After initially impressing for the development side, the creative winger made his senior debut for his new club in Norway’s top-tier in 2018, registering a total of 17 appearances in his breakthrough season.

However, he has really come of age this term with a superb start to the 2019 campaign, accumulating 9 goals and 4 assists in 18 league appearances to propel Bodo/Glimt to the top of the Eliteserien standings.

As evident from those numbers, the Norwegian starlet has shown signs of outgrowing his humble surroundings back in his homeland and a move to a bigger club is not beyond the realms of possibility, with a multitude of Europe’s elite outfits circling around like sharks.

Yet to earn his senior international debut for Norway, Hakon Evjen has been a regular for his nation at all youth levels from U-16 to U-20, accumulating a total of 22 caps in the process.

To put things into perspective, promising youngsters in the lesser-known leagues in Europe take a lot of time to grab the limelight but Evjen seems like a special talent at this stage of his career.

He is far from the finished article just yet but Man City would bag a real coup if they manage to nab him for a thrifty fee in January.

As well as spending big on players like Rodrigo Hernandez and Joao Cancelo to strengthen their senior ranks, Man City brought in the likes of Pedro Porro, Ryotaro Meshino, Liam Delap and Morgan Rodgers to supplement their academy side with some top-quality young talent.

The reigning Premier League champions have put a lot of emphasis on unearthing gems from all corners of the globe in recent years and Hakon Evjen, who is currently amongst Europe’s top emerging prospects, could be yet another wonderful addition to City’s ranks.

Even if a move does materialize in January, the 19-year-old would need to go through a lot of transformation before he eventually makes his mark in the senior side at the Etihad in the Premier League.

However, given his potential and whatever we have seen of him so far at Glimt, the right-winger has all the makings of a future star in Europe.
