Manchester City Opinion – Guardiola shouldn’t sign Tadic

According to a report in Sun Football, Premier League defending champions Manchester City are ready to splash £26m on Dusan Tadic to sign him from Ajax.

The 30-year-old former Southampton flop has attracted the eyes of many after his scintillating performance at the Bernabeu, helping the Dutch side to thrash Real Madrid 4-1 in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie.

As per the Sun (h/t Mundo Deportivo), the Cityzens are already in contact with the Serbian’s representatives. It is suggested that German giants Bayern Munich are also in the potential race to sign the player.

Tadic joined Ajax for just £10m last summer to end his rather mediocre time in the English south coast. But he has revived himself as a player in Amsterdam.

However much the attraction of a player is, here’s why Manchester City must not dwell into this deal and rather concentrate on bolstering other areas of their team:

City have too many resources in the forward line

After spending a fortune in the first three transfer windows under Pep Guardiola, City only bought Riyad Mahrez last summer as they have a squad full of rich talent, especially when it comes to the attacking department.

With the addition of the Algerian international, they have further bolstered that section. There are enough options for the manager to even rotate and field a dangerous line-up.

Hence, forking out a good chunk of money on a player who will just add up the numbers would be a slight waste. Instead, the Cityzens have two other areas where they can spend in the coming summer – defensive midfield and left-back.

Fernandinho, who is probably the best deeper-lying midfielder in the league, is now 33 years old and isn’t getting any younger. Big-money signing Benjamin Mendy hasn’t been able to kick-start his City career at left-back.

Thus, Guardiola and his men must concentrate on spending on areas other than attack and make this squad the strongest in all department.

Conclusion

It’s quite clear that Manchester City would better off signing Dusan Tadic in the upcoming transfer window. Rather than spending on the attack, they should strengthen other positions.
