Manchester City Opinion: Cengiz Under to Manchester City
The AS Roma super starlet has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, with the Express reporting as such in December of 2018.
However, nothing materialized and Under stayed at AS Roma. That could change in the coming summer, with reports indicating that AS Roma are open to a move (Voetbal). And if Under does move away, it will only be to the Premier League, according to ESPN.
The club have had a terrible season so far and it could get even worse, as Under is not the only one linked with a move away. The likes of Nicolo Zaniolo (Calciomercato), Kostas Manolas (Express) and Steven Nzonzi (Calciomercato) have all been linked with moves away.
However, while Manchester City have been linked with a move for Zaniolo, it’s Cengiz Under who would be the better signing. A stunningly talented player, the 21-year-old has been among AS Roma’s best this season.
That should come to no surprise given just how well he played in his debut season. Eased into the AS Roma side by then manager Eusebio Di Francesco, Under eventually found his footing in the second half of the season.
He would end his debut campaign with 8 goals and two assists, with all of them coming in 2018. This included a rather incredible five-game streak where he scored and assisted 6 goals.
However, what really made him stand out was his explosiveness combined with a skilful and yet delicate way with the ball. Capable of playing across the front-line, Under has featured mostly on the right-hand side, cutting into deadly effect. That has been Manchester City’s problem area.
While they do have a catalogue of players at their disposal, no-one has cemented their spot. Raheem Sterling has been incredible and has made the left-wing his, but the right-wing still needs a consistent star.
Riyad Mahrez was brought in over the summer and hasn’t lived up to his club-record potential. And on the other hand, Bernardo Silva has become more of a central midfielder. Leroy Sane is another option, but even the German has been in and out of the team.
It gives Cengiz Under a chance to find a way into the team and the move is one that will shore up Manchester City’s team even more.

Manchester City have superstars in their side, and a team that could possibly conquer Europe in the next few years. However, they need that explosiveness from someone other than Raheem Sterling or Sergio Aguero and Cengiz Under is their man.
