Manchester City opinion: Should the Cityzens sign Bruno Fernandes?

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester City are closing in on a deal to bring Sporting Lisbon’s start midfielder Bruno Fernandes to the Etihad in the summer.

The report reveals that City will pay £42million to acquire the services of the Portuguese international and young Colombian Marlos Moreno could head the other way as a part of the deal.

The report reveals that Fernandes is touted as a replacement to either Ilkay Gundogan, who has rejected a new contract at the club, or to David Silva, who is said to be attracting interest from Japan’s J-League.

Losing both Gundogan and Silva will be a huge blow for the Cityzens, especially after their phenomenal contributions over the last two seasons.

The duo has played a major part in their title pursuits this season too and could end up as back-to-back Premier League winners if City win their last two games.

The Cityzens are sure to bring in reinforcements in the summer after their failure in the Champions League yet again.

The loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals ended City’s dreams of a treble this season but the defending champions will go all out in the summer transfer window to get closer to their dream of European glory.

Bruno Fernandes would be phenomenal for the Cityzens, especially after his amazing season with the Portuguese giants this season.

The 24-year-old has scored 31 goals and has provided 16 assists in all competitions this season and has almost single-handedly helped his side secure a top-three finish.

Fernandes is a complete midfielder, capable of doing almost anything on a football pitch. The Portuguese international can score, provide and also defend when played in a deeper role and he would be a fantastic fit in Pep Guardiola’s system.

The 24-year-old has a monstrous right-foot which he uses to brilliant effect from outside the box.

Fernandes has scored a number of goals from distance this season but his ability to be a creator makes him a complete midfielder for any top club to have in their ranks.

Fernandes is also extremely versatile and is capable of playing anywhere across the central midfield, on the wings and even up front as a number 9. His addition to City’s squad will give Pep Guardiola a number of options next season.

Conclusion

A player of Bruno Fernandes’ quality for £42million will be an absolute steal for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola should have no hesitation in making a move for him in the summer transfer window.
