Man City signing this 27-year-old Bundesliga star in a swap deal for Leroy Sane would be a huge transfer blunder

Man City Opinion: City shouldn’t sign Alaba in exchange for Leroy Sane

According to a report from Mirror, Manchester City have been offered David Alaba by Bayern Munich as a part of a swap deal for Leroy Sane.

The Bavarians, who are keen on signing the German winger, are looking to offload their long-serving full-back Alaba and want to utilize him as a makeweight for Sane’s transfer.

Meanwhile, the report adds that the Cityzens are unwilling to let go of their prospect, thus shutting down the offer. (h/t Mirror)

A futile swap deal despite Alaba’s excellence

Without a tinge of doubt, Alaba has been one of the key factors for the Bundesliga outfit, playing more than 300 games and bagging a flurry of titles.

After establishing himself as a regular in the playing 11, Alaba contributed quite significantly to Bayern’s seven Bundesliga titles in their last seven seasons.

Having been the recipient of the Austrian Footballer of the Year for six consecutive years, Alaba has earned 64 international caps until now.

Furthermore, his attacking index has been intact over the course, as he racked up 10 goals and 20 assists in the past three seasons.

Yet, the Austrian international won’t be a viable addition for the Sky Blues – even more so since it would mean losing Sane.

Meanwhile, at the Etihad, Cityzens have two top-quality left-backs namely Benjamin Mendy and Oleksander Zincheko.

Given this, the Cityzens should be reluctant to sign Alaba and let go of a player like Sane.

The German winger is soaring with potential and quality as of now and he will certainly be the cornerstone of Guardiola’s attack for a long time to come.

In the previous season, the 23-year-old racked up 16 goals and 18 assists in all competitions, despite being used as a substitute on 12 occasions.

The 2017/18 campaign saw him score 14 goals and provide 19 assists, thus illustrating how crucial the former Schalke man is to the Sky Blues.

Final Verdict

Guardiola has nothing to do in the current transfer window, as his squad looks solid. The former Barcelona manager has to make sure that he doesn’t pay heed to transfers involving players like Sane.
