Manchester City opinion: Should the Cityzens sign Benjamin Nygren?
The youngster is massively rated in Sweden, so much so that his manager claimed that expectations from Nygren are higher than what was of Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he was the same age.
The report reveals that Manchester City are set to battle it out with Belgian champions Genk, who are on the lookout for a replacement for their star winger Leandro Trossard, who is expected to leave the club in the summer.
Manchester City rewrote the record books after completing the domestic treble thanks to a 6-0 battering of Watford in the final of the FA Cup last weekend.
The Cityzens are on another level compared to other sides in the Premier League and a lot of it has been down to Pep Guardiola.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich has transformed this City side into one of the very best in the world over the last three years but a lot is still expected of the Champions in terms of their performances in Europe.
City’s dominance over the last two seasons has been thanks to their world class squad. The Champions boast of the very best players in the Premier League but the biggest area where Guardiola deserves credit is with his willingness to work with the younger players.
The likes of Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko were given a chance by Pep and the pair now look ready to start against the biggest teams in the world. City should make full use of Guardiola’s development of youngsters by bringing in more youth to secure the club’s long-term future.
One such player who has the ability to lead City’s next generation is Benjamin Nygren. The Swede made his senior debut at the end of last season for IFK Gothenburg and he has since been a regular for them.
In his first nine games this season, Nygren has scored 4 and has assisted 8 more in the Swedish top-flight and he looked like a seasoned pro on the ball.
He has mainly started off on the right-wing, but he has the tendency to drift around the pitch while remaining a huge threat from almost every position.
Nygren has shown fantastic vision for his age and has the awareness to hold on to the ball until a teammate makes himself available in a dangerous area.
The 17-year-old is also immensely composed in front of goal and is seen taking his time despite being under pressure to convert his chances.
