According to reports in the Mirror, Manchester City remain keen on Lyon’s talented midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The 21-year-old was a subject of a £44.5m bid from the Premier League champions, only for the French club to reject the offer in the summer.
Ndombele gave a fantastic account of himself in the Champions League match between City and Lyon, where the Frenchman starred in his team’s impressive 2-1 win at the Etihad. As per the report, Pep Guardiola is still interested in the 21-year-old to replace Brazilian veteran Fernandinho in defensive midfield.
City scouts are keeping close tabs on the player and they will do so until January when Guardiola gets ready to make his move. (Mirror)
Here’s why it’d be good for the Cityzens to buy the Frenchman in January or next summer:
Tanguy Ndombele is a dynamic player who can slot in as a central midfielder or as a defensive midfielder according to the needs of the team. The 21-year-old is very good in passing and threading key through balls to split a defence up.
He possesses a pass accuracy rate of 88.4%, with a key pass rate of 2 per game, which is impressive.
The Frenchman is physically adept and has the understanding of the game in dangerous areas of the field. He has a tackle rate of 2 per game, which signifies his desire to win the ball back, which is something Guardiola would really like in a midfield player.
As mentioned above, Ndombele’s dynamism is due to the fact that he can go past people in tight midfield areas and create chances for the team. He has already provided four assists in seven league appearances this season. The 21-year-old has a dribble rate 1.1 per game, which epitomises his skill to drive past players in congested areas.
When a player is liked by Guardiola, there would be something special in him. Analysing the player, it is easy to understand that Ndombele is a class act who can really enhance the quality of Manchester City’s midfield.
Furthermore, Fernandinho’s age may deter him from playing regularly. Hence, getting a player who is only 21 but has an abundance of talent makes sense. It would be great if the Cityzens sign the Frenchman.
