Manchester City opinion: Guardiola should beat United for Milan Skriniar

Italian news outlet Calciomercato has reported that Manchester City are more than ready to beat rivals Manchester United to Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar.

The Red Devils are looking to add reinforcements next summer as they prepare for a title challenge and believe that either Kalidou Koulibaly or Milan Skriniar (Manchester Evening News) would help them do that.

Manchester City are looking to add a more reliable defender in the summer, with both John Stones and Aymeric Laporte showing signs of inconsistency this season. Furthermore, Stones has managed to make only 19 Premier League appearances out of a potential 30.

Injuries and various other issues have seen the England centre-back barely make the bench at times. It has been one of the many reasons why Manchester City have struggled at times to keep up with Liverpool this season.

Their defence is far from perfect at the moment as compared to last season, where the Cityzens conceded only 27 goals. This season, they’ve already managed to concede 21 goals, which shows the big change.

It further emphasises why Manchester City need someone as good as Milan Skriniar to strengthen their back-line. He only joined Inter Milan last summer but the Slovakian has already established himself as a first-team star alongside Stefan De Vrij.

Tall, powerful and quick, Skriniar personifies the modern centre-half. Furthermore, he is comfortable with the ball at his feet and has it in his locker to spray passes whenever required. That makes him perfect for Guardiola’s system.

The former Barcelona manager prefers to have his defenders and his goalkeepers to be comfortable with the ball at their feet, which is exactly what Skriniar specialises.

The statistics support the fact that the Skriniar would be perfect for the reigning Champions, having averaged 1.7 tackles, 2 interceptions, 4.7 clearances and 1.3 blocks per game (Whoscored).

In comparison, no Manchester City player has managed more tackles, interceptions, clearances or blocks than Skriniar (Whoscored). He has outdone every City player and that emphasises why a move needs to be made.

The Slovakian will only improve further going forward and given his age, any move for Milan Skriniar will be a long-term solution.

Conclusion

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have already dominated the Premier League as England discovered last season. Now all that is left is to create a dynasty in England, something like what Sir Alex Ferguson did with Manchester United. But to do that, he needs the right players and if Milan Skriniar is anything, the Slovakian is the perfect man.
