Man City completing €10m move for this 18-year-old sensation would be a compensation for the Sancho mistake – opinion

Manchester City opinion: Should the Cityzens sign Antonio Marin?

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, defending Premier League champions Manchester City have tabled a bid of €10million for Dinamo Zagreb’s highly-rated youngster Antonio Marin.

Pep Guardiola’s side will face competition from Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan for the signature of the 18-year old.

Manchester City’s squad are overloaded with stars but the Cityzens are now focusing on bringing in youngsters. The sale of Jadon Sancho would’ve hurt Manchester City especially after a huge rise in the value of the teenager.

Guardiola has been giving regular game time to the likes of Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who have both been hugely impressive every time that they have played. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has now identified another starlet in Antonio Marin.

The 18-year-old is considered to be one of the brightest young talents coming out of Croatia and has shown huge promise whenever he has played for Dinamo Zagreb’s youth setup so far this season.

Marin has featured in 5 games for Zagreb’s second team and has scored 4 times so far. The teenager scored in every game he played the full 90 minutes in and has also been directly involved in 4 goals in the UEFA Youth League, including a brace against Chelsea in the quarterfinals.

The Croatian is naturally a left winger but has been used on the right flank at times. Marin is a typical left winger whose biggest strength is cutting in to drive through towards the goal.

However, Marin’s ability is certainly not limited to that and despite being just 18 years old, he has shown incredible maturity when it comes to his movement off the ball.

The youngster’s biggest asset is the runs he makes on the shoulder of the last defender, which is a massive threat if a fellow teammate is able to find him.

His composure in front of goal is very good and is also capable of scoring from outside the box. Marin is also a wonderful free-kick taker and he will only improve if he plays along with to the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva who are both exceptional over the dead ball.

Conclusion

Marin still has a long way to go in his career and the next big step is a move to a tougher league. The Premier League is an ideal destination to improve his game and under Pep Guardiola, he can fulfil his massive potential.

Manchester City should make a move for Antonio Marin in the summer and give him the chance to develop at the club as opposed to what they did with Sancho.
