Man City can avoid another Sancho mistake by offering a new deal to their up and coming 22-year-old

Manchester City opinion: City to offer Zinchenko a new deal – Good move?

According to a report from the Telegraph, Manchester City are set to offer Oleksandr Zinchenko a new and improved five-year contract in the coming days. Pep Guardiola’s faith in the young Ukrainian has been well and truly repaid, and he is now more than worthy of getting a new deal.

Manchester City are entering yet another important transfer window as they look to cement their status as the best team in the country. City completed a historic domestic treble last season but the elusive Champions League fell out of their reach.

Pep Guardiola will be looking to do all that he possibly can in the summer window to further strengthen what is already an outstanding squad. However, City should also look to keep an eye on their younger set of players who too deserve some recognition.

City already made an almost unforgivable transfer blunder last season with the sale of Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund, who has since become one of the most talked about young footballers in the world.

The Cityzens seem to have learnt their lesson, as they are offering a new deal to Oleksandr Zinchenko and the youngster deserves nothing less. The Ukrainian couldn’t have gone into the season with much hope of regular game time but Benjamin Mendy’s injury opened up an unlikely door for him.

Mendy’s injury earlier forced Guardiola to use the likes of Fabian Delph and Zinchenko out of position at left full-back and the 22-year-old’s improvement is jaw-dropping.

Zinchenko has almost made the full-back role his own after a string of phenomenal performances. His adaptation to Pep Guardiola’s style on the left side of defence has been sublime despite the fact that he is naturally an attacking midfielder.

Zinchenko’s performances were so good last season that Pep Guardiola chose to stick with him despite the return of Benjamin Mendy from his injury.

The 22-year-old has a long and bright future ahead of him and City have done the most logical thing in offering him a new deal that will keep him at the club for another five years.
